Christian Bale Visits Aurora Shooting Victims
Instead of making headlines for bad choices and dumb mistakes, Christian Bale is in the press today for doing the right thing.
The TDKR star put on his good guy hat yesterday when he and wife Sibi Blazic took a trip to Aurora, Colorado to visit survivors of last week’s midnight theater shooting that left 12 dead and 58 injured.
One of Bale’s visits was to Corey Rottman (above) who said on his Facebook after the shooting: “Shot in the leg at Batman. Where is he when you need him. Please pray for everyone there.”
Quietly arriving by ambulance to the Medical Center of Aurora around 2pm, Bale also took time to thank medical staff and police officers for their hard work as well as visited the memorial for those who perished (among the victims a six-year-old girl and three men who died protecting their girlfriends).
WB PR has stated that Bale’s visit was not of their doing, he made this trip all on his own and I gotta say, I believe it. One hospital staff member said they had no idea he was there untill after he had left, and the media found out about this the same way the rest of us did did: through pictures, tweets and status updates posted to Twitter and Facebook.
After the shooting, internet campaigns began to pop up urging Bale to visit the town including one on Facebook (that eventually went viral) with a compelling wall post from Emily Sanchez simply stating “I propose we should make enough noise asking Christian Bale to visit these kids in the hospital dressed in the real Batman outfit. They need to know Heroes can be real too, not just the bad guys.”
As a journalist, I know I’m supposed to be unbiased but as Crix Lee, longtime fan of Bale’s since “Newsies”, I truly believe in my heart of hearts that Bale would’ve come on his own after the statement he released last Saturday where he said:
“Words cannot express the horror that I feel, I cannot begin to truly understand the pain and grief of the victims and their loved ones, but my heart goes out to them.”
Good on ya, man. Proud of you.
