James Gunn Confirms He’ll Direct Guardians Of The Galaxy
After a month of “Is he or isn’t he?” talk, writer/director James Gunn confirmed yesterday through Facebook and Twitter that he is indeed rewriting and directing Marvel’s next comic book blockbuster, Guardians Of The Galaxy.
Making their first appearance back in 1969′s Marvel Super-Heroes #18, the current members of the GOTG include: Rocket Raccoon, Bug, Gamora, Groot, Drax, Star-Lord, Major Victory (Vance Astro), Mantis, Martyr, Cosmo, the Spacedog, Moondragon, and Jack Flag. Comprised of both superhumans and extraterrestrial beings, their mission is to protect the Milky Way Galaxy from any entity that threatens the lives of the people who live there.
Knowing that Gunn is a huge comic book geek and seeing what he’s done with his own films (Slither and Super), writing skills on the Scooby-Doo franchise (whatever, haters; I liked them) and Suda 51′s tongue-in-cheek zombie game Lollipop Chainsaw as well as his rewrite on the last Dawn Of The Dead remake, I’m giddy to see how he’ll handle GOTG with the massive budget he’s gonna get to bring it to life.
Gunn is also aware of the monumental task ahead and doesn’t take it lightly, as evidenced by the status update read ’round the world:
Here’s hoping Michael Rooker becomes one of the said Guardians (so far, fans are hoping he’ll be Rocket Raccoon) and perhaps a certain journalist with a whole lotta moxie as an extra *cough*ME*cough cough*!
But seriously, I can’t wait to see what Gunn does with this one. It’s gonna be legend-wait for it-DARY…
Is it August 2014 yet?
How ’bout now?
p.s. If you wanna know more about the GOTG universe before the film’s release in August 2014, I can’t think of a better place to go than Marvel.com’s Marvel Universe Wiki and, as always, your local comic book store!
