The Master’s Second Teaser
Five years after his first absence in a Paul Thomas Anderson film, Philip Seymour Hoffman is back and this time, he’s the star. “The Master” co-stars Joaquin Phoenix and Amy Adams. There was quite a bit of difficulty getting the film off the page and in front of the cameras due to its striking similarities to the true story of the birth of the Church of Scientology. The film takes place just after WWII and focus on the relationship between a younger, (and possibly disillusioned) veteran (Phoenix) and his older ‘master’ (Hoffman), against the backdrop of the master’s creation of a faith based organization. Amy Adams is set to play Hoffman’s wife. The music over the images is sampled from the score, which will be the second collaboration between the director and Radiohead guitarist, Jonny Greenwood.

I must admit I am still a bit nervous regarding this film, and I also must admit I’m not altogether sure why that would be. I love PTA‘s films, every one of them. Coming off his [arguably] most well received and popular film, There Will Be Blood, The Master has a lot to live up to and seems to be setting it’s sights pretty high.

That looks AMAZING. I’m totally into it. I understand your apprehension but I think it looks great & who doesn’t love spooky Scientology?

I keep thinking of The Master from Doctor Who whenever I see this title.
Depp/Burton have definitely worked more together. Eight times if I remember correctly. This is the fifth collaboration between PTA and PSH.
