Warehouse 13 Recap: “No Pain, No Gain”
Where ordinary people cross paths with extraordinary events, artifacts are born.
In this episode, we get a glimpse of an artifact’s origin, as witnessed by Claudia and Mrs. Frederic. An act of bravery during a robbery infuses an otherwise normal woman’s bracelet with new power, and Claudia gets a taste of what it is like to be Mrs. Frederic. How long the older woman has left is unknown; her hair is greying and her immortality waning. Though Claudia’s ultimate destiny as Warehouse Caretaker was revealed in the show’s second season, only now does Mrs. Frederic begin to guide her down that path.
Artie and Steve go on a mission to find and recover a series of artifacts stolen from the Warehouse, only to discover that some may have already been shipped away. Steve accidentally reveals his Metronome connection with Claudia to Artie, who assures him that they will find a solution.
Meanwhile, in Toronto, an artifact imbued with the power of wish-fulfillment makes a hockey player seemingly invincible. In a somewhat cliched play on the ‘crazy female’ motif, Myka’s hormones surge during an artifact-induced pregnancy, while an obsessed fan kidnaps her hockey playing crush and torments him for refusing to love her in return. The twist? It was Pete who wished for Myka’s pregnancy…because he wants someone to share his life with.
Is this a prelude to a romantic relationship between the two Secret Service agents, or merely a reflection of their deep, platonic bond? And will we see Mike the hockey player again, in pursuit of a romance with Myka? It was their kiss, after all, that drove the obsessed fan over the edge.
