Wow. This theme song is stuck in my head like gum on hair. For LGBT comics, I recommend Leia Weathington’s The Legend of Bold Riley, a wonderful action/adventure title that happens to have a lesbian princess as protagonist. Think of it like Conan with a heart. The story is pretty cool and the art is gorgeous, plus Leia is one of the coolest people I know, so I pimp her stuff out any chance I get
I know Weight Hacking is a weight-loss program created by a fellow D&D Geek and a nutritionist and that a lot of creators and geek personalities like Neil Gaiman and Felicia Day have expressed support for it. Maybe that’s why they have enough pull to get in NYCC?
So happy to hear mention of the Montoya storyline Half a Life. Being from a very traditional latino background, I could identify with Renee’s fear. It felt real, although I may be biased because Greg Rucka can do no wrong in my eyes. But talking about queer representations in mainstream comics: How do you guys feel about Kate Kane? I don’t think I heard anything about it and she’s probably the most visible LGBT character in superhero comics today.
Another great episode and another great guest! Loving this podcast
That’s funny, I made my post before reading yours and looked up to see you mention Montoya also; very cool. As for Kate Kane, I agree she is definitely the most “mainstream” gay character but for some reason I never related to her as much. Thanks for the Legend of Bold Riley rec!
I was so glad when Montoya’s Question came up. She is MY super hero! I am half Dominican and a lesbian and I never related to a hero more. I would give anything for them to bring her back as her own graphic novels.
Hey guys! I’m glad you’re digging the podcast. =) Joan’s an amazing guest and we’ll have her back on in a few weeks to talk about Manhunter with author Marc Andreyko.
As to Kate Kane — not really familiar with her Batwoman story line — but, her quote on her DCU wiki page quote “I’m a goddamn soldier” makes me very curious to check it out. =)
xo,
Kate
